Shipping

Every MAIKAI piece is made from handwoven textiles, cut and finished in small runs. We pack and dispatch from our studio in Goa, India, and we ship worldwide. This page explains how long orders take, what they cost to ship, and what happens if something goes wrong. If anything here is unclear, write to us and we will answer.

Order processing

Orders are processed and dispatched within 1 to 3 business days of payment confirmation. Orders placed on weekends or public holidays in India are processed on the next business day. Most pieces on our website are ready to ship. Where a piece is made to order, this is stated clearly on the product page along with its lead time. You will receive a confirmation email when your order is placed, and a second email with tracking details once it has left us.

Made-to-order pieces

Some of our pieces are woven and finished only once you have ordered them. Where this is the case, it is stated on the product page, and the lead time is usually 4 to 6 weeks before dispatch. This is the honest cost of a textile woven by hand. The loom is set, the yarn is dyed, and the piece is finished for you. If your order contains both ready-to-ship and made-to-order pieces, we will hold it and send everything together. If you would rather receive the ready-to-ship pieces first, write to us within 24 hours of ordering and we will split the shipment at no extra cost.

Who we ship with

We ship with DHL and FedEx, and occasionally with UPS. The carrier is chosen by destination and by what will reach you fastest. All orders are shipped with tracking.

Delivery estimates

Delivery estimates are counted from the date of dispatch, not the date you place the order. Add 1 to 3 business days of processing to the figures below, or the stated lead time if your piece is made to order.

Within Indi, delivery takes 2 to 7 business days from dispatch.

International orders are offered at two service levels, both selectable at checkout:

Express	3 to 10 business days
Standard	10 to 15 business days

On express, orders to the United Kingdom and Europe typically arrive within 3 to 7 business days, and orders to the United States within 5 to 10 business days. Destinations further afield sit at the longer end of each range. Remote addresses, non-metro pin codes, and islands may take a few days longer than the estimates above.

Shipping costs

Within India, shipping is complimentary on all orders.

International shipping is available in 3 tiers.

Standard is 3,700 INR(38 USD approx).

Express is 4,200 INR(45 USD approx).

Complimentary international shipping is offered on orders above 40,000 INR(417 USD approx).

Duties and taxes

All international orders are shipped delivered duty unpaid. Import duties, customs charges, and local taxes are set by your country and are not included in the price you pay us. They are collected by the carrier or by customs at the time of delivery, and are payable by the recipient.

We are not able to estimate these charges in advance, as they vary by country and by order value. Your local customs office can tell you what to expect.

We cannot mark orders as gifts or declare a value lower than the amount paid. Doing so is illegal in the countries we ship from and to.

Tracking your order

A tracking number is emailed to you at dispatch. It can take up to 24 hours to become active on the carrier's website. If your tracking has not updated in 5 business days, write to us at hi@maikaiclothingcom with your order number and we will follow it up with the carrier.

Custom and commissioned pieces

We are not taking custom orders through the website at this time. If you have written to us directly about a commissioned piece, the timeline will be agreed with you on the specifics of what is being made, and confirmed in writing before your order is processed. Custom pieces sit outside the delivery estimates on this page.

Delays

We work with carriers we trust, but once a parcel leaves us it is in their hands. Delays can happen through customs clearance, weather, strikes, or public holidays in India or in your country. The estimates on this page are estimates, not guarantees. Orders placed around Indian festivals, Christmas, and the Indian monsoon may take longer than usual. Where we know in advance that a delay is likely, we will say so on the announcement bar.

Incorrect addresses and failed deliveries

Please check your shipping address carefully before completing your order. If you spot a mistake, write to us within 24 hours and we will correct it, provided the order has not yet been dispatched. If a parcel is returned to us because the address was incorrect, the recipient could not be reached, or duties were refused at delivery, we will contact you to arrange reshipment. The cost of reshipment will be charged to you.

Lost or damaged parcels

If your parcel arrives damaged, photograph the outer packaging and the pieces inside before unpacking further, and write to us within 48 hours of delivery at hi@maikaiclothingcom. If a parcel is confirmed lost in transit by the carrier, we will replace it.
