Maikai is all dolled up. The school has been cancelled as it’s a ‘rainy day’. She has the whole morning at home, while here mother’s at work. She’d quickly put on a cassette and open her mother’s little make up box. It always smelled delightful, just like her mumma. It had one rose powder, a few lipsticks, a big pod of kohl and packs of bindis carefully placed between a bunch of bobby pins. Her day would be spent in her favourite purple frock, adorning her mother’s bindis and using her red lipstick all wherever it fit. The monsoon gloom shies away in her playful candour and the sun is on the horizon. The sky is no red or yellow, it’s purple - just the way she likes it to be.
